Frequently asked questions

What do I need to sell organic products from Türkiye to the EU?

The product must be certified under EU organic rules by a control body recognised by the European Commission for the relevant country and product category, and an electronic certificate of inspection (e-COI) must be issued through TRACES for each consignment.

Where can I see the recognised control bodies?

Recognised bodies are listed in the annexes to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1378. The European Commission’s control bodies page (opens in a new tab) points to the current information.

Is a Turkish organic certificate enough for the EU?

No. The EU market requires a certificate issued under EU rules by a body recognised by the Commission.

Does VORCETT currently offer services in this programme?

No. This programme is in preparation at VORCETT; no service is offered until the relevant authorisation, recognition or approval processes are complete.

Details

What does it mean for organic products going from Türkiye to the EU?

Since 1 January 2022, the core framework for organic production and the labelling of organic products in the European Union has been Regulation (EU) 2018/848. Control bodies operating in countries outside the EU must meet the relevant recognition and supervision requirements.

Products to be placed on the EU market as organic must be verified against the production and control rules. The European Commission recognises and supervises, under specific conditions, the control authorities and control bodies that carry out controls in third countries. For organic products imported into the EU, the electronic certificate of inspection (e-COI) is issued through the TRACES system.

Who is this programme relevant to?
  • Producers and businesses aiming to supply organic products to the EU market
  • Businesses that process or export organic products
  • Operators responsible for maintaining organic status in the supply chain
  • Businesses that must join a third-country organic control system under EU legislation
How does the process work?
  1. Determining the product and operator scope
  2. Preparing the system under the applicable EU organic rules
  3. Control through a recognised control body/authority
  4. Conformity assessment and certification
  5. For exports, handling the relevant import and e-COI/TRACES requirements

European Commission
Required of the body
ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation for the relevant organic scope and recognition by the European Commission (per product category and country)
Role of 17065
Since 1 January 2025, control bodies outside the EU must be recognised by the European Commission under Regulation (EU) 2018/848 for specific product categories and countries. ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation is one of the prerequisites for this recognition; however, recognition is granted through a separate Commission assessment, and recognised bodies are listed in the annexes to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1378.
