Why does IFA matter?

GLOBALG.A.P. (commonly written GLOBALGAP) Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) is a global standard that aims to support safer and more responsible agricultural practices at primary production level. The fruit and vegetables scope covers topics such as food safety, the environment, worker health and safety, production processes and traceability.

IFA helps producers demonstrate their farm-level practices against defined criteria. The fruit and vegetables standard can be applied to different production systems and to both individual producers and producer groups. Certification is carried out by certification bodies approved by GLOBALG.A.P.

Who is this programme relevant to?
  • Fruit and vegetable growers
  • Individual producers, multi-site operations and producer groups
  • Producers wishing to meet international buyers’ farm assurance expectations
  • Other eligible primary production activities within the scope of GLOBALG.A.P. IFA
How does the process work?
  1. Determining the applicable IFA scope
  2. Self-assessment and system preparation against the current principles and criteria
  3. Audit by a GLOBALG.A.P.-approved certification body
  4. Closing non-conformities and technical review
  5. Certification if requirements are met, followed by periodic surveillance audits

Required of the body
Licence and certification agreement with Agraya GmbH + ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation for the relevant GLOBALG.A.P. scope
Role of 17065
In the GLOBALG.A.P. system, certification bodies must sign a licence and certification agreement with Agraya GmbH and obtain ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation for the relevant GLOBALG.A.P. scope. The accreditation body must be an IAF member, a signatory of the IAF MLA for product certification, and must have signed a memorandum of understanding with Agraya GmbH. A general ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation alone is not enough; the accreditation scope must include the GLOBALG.A.P. standard.
